Is Learning German Really That Hard?

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

When I went to high school, only three different foreign language classes were offered:
Spanish, Sign Language and German. My school required two years of foreign language studies in order to graduate.
My best friend decided to learn german and I decided sign language.
To make a long story short after two years of required foreign language classes my reward was standing next to the choir translating into sign language for the audience and her reward was a one month trip to Germany, on the schools dime.
I should have learned German, she had more fun and she still remembers how to speak German, my sign language is very very limited.

Traveling to a different country can be tough, but not knowing the language can make the experience even tougher.
Whether it is for a family vacation or if you are planning on moving to Germany it would probably be best to know a piece of the language, just to be able to navigate your way through the cities.
german language schools are offered everywhere and anywhere, nowadays, access to German language schools can be as easy as login onto the net.
It is worth to learn the German language whether you ever visit Germany or not, for it is a unique and a beautiful language.

With living in such a diverse country, where every background of every region of the world is right in our backyards, coming accross someone who only knows German, would be very grateful in meeting a person with the same tongue.
Not too long ago, I have traveled around Europe and visited seven countries.
Of all the countries in the world, I like Germany the best. I have previously attended German courses and can converse in the language.
This definately came in handy when me and my wife got lost!

Time To Study German, Eat, Drink, And Be Happy Because Oktoberfest Is Here!

Friday, November 21st, 2008

From September 20 thru October 5, 2008, Munich, Germany will once again hold Oktoberfest. The Oktoberfest is an extremely valid reason to learn how to speak german online, if only for the enjoyment of actually being able to eloquate the multitude of food and drinks available in the sixteen-day event.

It is All About the Dishes

The “wurst”, or sausage is the first thing that comes to mind during Oktoberfest. Studying German to be able to say the numerous sausage names is recommended. You need to be able to eloquate and tell the difference between the bratwurst (beef, veal, and/or pork), bockwurst (lamb, chicken, turkey, pork with chives, white pepper, parsley, and paprika), knackwurst (beef or pork with fresh garlic), and the common frankfurter.

You’ll also have the chance to sample the many types of spatzle, or noodles, the ideal accompaniment to beer. These noodles are made from basic ingredients such as salt, eggs, milk, flour, and various spices. Sample the cheese noodles with fried onions, the kasespatzle. These are so scrumptious that learning German, if only to express your appreciation, is a must.

You can also taste other Bavarian delicacies like hendl (roasted chicken), sauerkraut (fermented cabbage), and Apfelpfannenkuchen (apple pancakes). As if these aren’t enough reasons to learn german, wait until you get to the beers.

Wines and Beers

More than the costumes, music, and food, the Oktoberfest is known for its beers and wines. Be able to differentiate the various beers and wines in the fourteen tents of the event by learning the German language.

With high carbon dioxide levels, the sekt is made fizzier than most sparkling wines. Find the Deutscher Sekt if you know your wines well. Or, you can look for sekt formulated from Riesling, Pinot gris, and Pinot blanc grapes for that extra special date.

Brush up on your German to enjoy German wheat beer. You can avoid mixing up one from the other if you speak german because the names hint of the potency of the alcohol. Also, the alcohol levels increases as the wheat gets darker. Enjoy the traditional Dunkelweizen (dark wheat beer), Weizenstarkbier (strong wheat beer), Kristallweizen (crystal wheat beer), and the unfiltered Hefeweizen.

To top it all off, get drunk on the specially-brewed Oktoberfestbier, also called marzen (pale lager). There are numerous more types of wines and beers available on the Oktoberfest, with the Weinzelt tent serving as much as fifteen wines!

Obviously, to drink bacchanalian pleasures, dine on good food, meet new friends, and appreciate Oktoberfest, you need not learn German. Still, it will not hurt to study German free to get yourself heard above the noisy party that the Oktoberfest is.

Is It Dumb For Search Engine Optimizers To Use Ranking Hacks?

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

For those of you with experience in search engine optimazation consulting you possibly have been tempted by the prospect of certain easy ranking techniques.

It’s certainly possible you’ve used such techniques.

It goes without saying typically there are arguments about what is grey-hat, white-hat, blue-hat, or black-hat. I’d bet there’s a ton of debate over the launch of the Ultimate Search Engine Loophole product about what is the truth there.

The one-page websites really do in fact seem to be in essence white hat. But to suggest one certain aspect of the link-building strategy as whitehat is total nonsense.

It’s undeniably blackhat. There’s nothing blue, grey, or white about that part.

It must be said though you are not required to utilize that part of the strategy to achieve the rankings you want in MSN. It’s only a trick for people who aren’t put off by the future risks it could create - which quite frankly - because it’s targeting the MSN search engine - probably aren’t that significant since they are so out of the game now

There’s no question it is difficult to avoid such an opportunity to methodically post easy one-page web-sites that have significant potential to rank in the upper 3 spots for seemingly every single keyword phrase you go after regularly - and achieving those rankings often in a weeks time.

Yet one more may way for driving easy traffic from MSN in addition to MSN AdCenter.

If you choose to use loopholes you are morally obligated to go over them with the client and explain what you’re thinking of doing and the potential downsides they engender. If you don’t, you you might lose lout on future jobs. And no doubt that’s not what you want to do.

Why Should You Study French?

rosetta french language

A lot of debate exists lately on the subject of learning to speak Spanish, especially due to the reality that many of the ilegal immigrants moving from Central to North America (as far as we know) in recent year it has jumped drastically. Illegal immigration would become more of an issue if Americans learned to speak Spanish, because the illegals would be able to fit into society easier. The common belief is that if they were forced to learn to speak English to survive in society the immigration issue would rapidly evaporate on its own.

The simple fact of the matter is that Americans are extremely arrogant when it comes to their language. That English is very much a universal language has caused them to go into a slow descent into complacency. Nearly all the other nations on this planet require their school children to learn to speak (at the minimum) Actually, European children spend a lot of time learning their own language and the tounges of the neighboring countries.

rosetta french language

So French students study French and English, plus Italian, Spanish, and German so that they will be able to work and communicate with people around the world.

Americans haven’t had to do this because almost every foreign country teaches English to its students. Traveling the world they are nearly certain to find someone who speaks English at any business. This means that learning your neighbors’ languages has been shoved aside. By rights Americans should learn to speak both French and Spanish, in order to give them a leg up on doing business with their closest neighbors, Mexico and Canada; however, this has been spurned in the arrogant belief that anyone wishing to have any interaction, whether it be for financial or personal gain, in the United States must learn to speak English in order to do so, as English is the language of America.

Until just a few years ago, US citizens didn’t even think of the United States as having an “official” language. The U.S. is known as a melting pot; the original settlers arrived on its golden shores speaking all kinds of languages. In fact, in some parts of the United States this is still apparent.

The French language is used widely in Louisiana, while through the states of California, New Mexico, Texas, Arizona and Florida, Spanish is reputed to be the “official” second tongue of the area. Throughout parts of the mid-west textbooks were printed in German until World War II, when the national distaste of all things German following Hitler’s reign of terror led to said textbooks being reprinted in English and the German language slowly but surely being nudged into obscurity.

Considering the very diverse linguistic history enjoyed by citizens of the U.S., it’s hard to see just where their objections to the Spanish language “from sea to shining sea” comes from.

Second Language
What are the best ways to learn a new language? If you are serious about learning a foreign language, there are a few ideas you should think about to make sure you get to fluency as quickly as possible.

First, study every day, even if for only a little bit. Studying once per day a little bit for many days is many times better than studying in one large chunk of time once per week. You want to keep the material fresh in your mind and build off of what you learned the previous day. If you end up studying one per week, you will find that you will spend most of your time reviewing what you should have learned before. Short sessions each day will keep you moving forward.

Second, for any new language, vocabulary is essential. If you don’t know the words, you won’t understand what you are reading or hearing no matter how much grammar you know. Make sure that you keep a list or have some other method of keeping track of the new words you come across in order to learn them efficiently. It’s best if you have a systemized way of memorizing and reviewing them so that you don’t waste any time on learning them or end up forgetting them by not reviewing enough.

Third, do something fun in the language! Don’t just sit around reading textbooks and grammar books all the time. If you do boring things all the time, you will not be able to study as long and you will not learn as much. Instead, watch a movie, read a magazine or visit a blog written in the language you are trying to learn. I guarantee that you will learn a few new words and if nothing else, you will be exposed to the structure of the language and become more used to it thereby increasing your progress in the language. If you do these fun things in the language, you will also likely end up spending more time “studying” the language than you would have if all you were doing was grammar exercises in your textbook.

The Easiest Way
If you implement these three points, not only will you have good language learning habits but you will be well on your course to fluency and mastery. Of course, these are just introductory concepts. If you are interested in more advanced techniques to turboboost your language learning, I highly recommend checking out my website which will provide you with free articles and information on my book that will show you the fastest method to learn a language so that you will become fluent in a foreign language in a matter of months, learn thousands of words without worrying about forgetting them, master grammar and do all of this in an enjoyable, painless manner!
